ISYCOM research team associates computer sciences lecturers of GRIMM (Group of Researchers in Mathematics and Informatics of Mirail) of Université de Toulouse le Mirail (UTM) , members of IRIT Institute of Toulouse, and one lecturer from Rodez IUT. ISYCOM has been linked to IRIT by a research convention GRIMM-IRIT since 2002.

ISYCOM team was created in 2001 by Pr. B. Coulette when arriving at Mirail University as a full professor. It was enforced in 2003 by Pr. P.J Charrel and several lecturers coming from other universities or departments.

Research Topics Version Française

Complex system engineering is the general concern of ISYCOM team research. This theme encompasses studies of methods and tools involved in the development and the management of software systems or partial software systems which integrate the complexity issued from numerous human actors and artificial agents put at stake. This standpoint leads us to deal with the notion of viewpoint as soon as possible in the life cycle.

Complex system engineering gives raise to the following 2 research axis :

Projects Version Française

ISYCOM team is involved in several projects or research actions related to its research themes.

Projet RHODES

CORINTHE project

Conception and Realization of a strategic watching system about Information related to a THEme issued from a given economic field. CORINTHE project aims at designing a strategic watching system about a given sector of economy. The designing method will be centered on the notion of viewpoint. It relies on data mining techniques of heterogeneous information sources. It uses the expertise of LEREPS laboratory on economics from University Toulouse 1 and its SISIFE database.

The operational objectives are:
  • explicating consistent viewpoints for all the actors involved in SISIFE use and management;
  • computer aided feeding of SISIFE database with identified heterogeneous sources of information;
  • computer aided production of customized strategic watch reports.

The proposed methodology is related to VUML approach : from external viewpoint expression on the information system, VUML allows to elaborate the UML representations of the system and its interactions, which is the beginning of the development phase.

The first action, named MEROPE (Modellling with Objects and viewpoint Representation), consists in analyzing the existing system using a viewpoint-centered approach, i.e. the set of external viewpoints which model all the uses (operation, maintenance, querying, reporting) by all the involved actors. The expected result of this action is a precise description of what the actors wish under the viewpoint format. One of the profits of the action will be the explicit form of the content of the LEREPS experts' synthesis, strategic analysis and abstracts adapted to the strategic domain decision-makers.

The second action, named ANTICLE (ANalysis of Text and other sources of Information by means of Cartographies in the Energy sector) aims at designing of a distributed viewpoint management platform. The objectives of the platform are : (1) to add the viewpoint feature to the existing SISIFE database; (2) to provide the evolution functionalities required in this type of information complex system. The distributed feature of this platform is necessary to satisfy the practical requirements due to the non centralized operation by distant users. More precisely the platform has to deal with the external viewpoints elicitated during the upstream phase and the internal viewpoints allowing to represent the experts at stake (the discipline views of SISIFE). The point is the dynamic combination of the viewpoints necessary to elaborate the identified external viewpoints. About SISIFE data operation, a user profile (external viewpoint) requires to select and to produce pertinent data on the one hand and on the other hand, an form adapted to the qualitative, quantitative and technical constraints of the targeted user.

The third action, named EPHIRA (Extraction of Information from text and Internet Resources and semi-Automatic retrieval) has to develop automatic feeding strategies of SISIFE database elaborated from multi-agent techniques.

The fourth action will exploit the experiment developed around SISIFE to define and develop a complex information system for the strategic watch activity non restricted to one domain.

General schedule: 2 years from January 2004.
